  1. I pledged to carry my own mug by joining the Mug Project a few weeks back and have been sticking to it! Come join the Mug Project at http://mugproject.ning.com — please “friend” me and leave me a comment. Also, I started a group for CafePress Mug makers over there (we’re the biggest group so far!)– feel free to show off your favorite mug!

Also watch the ” Don’t cheat on your mug!” video!

  7. We’re going to keep doing what we’re doing – riding our bikes everywhere we can, taking the scooter to cut down on gas (still not great as far as emissions though), using canvas bags when shopping, unplugging those appliances when we’re not using them… We still need to switch out incandescent bulbs for compact fluorescent, but we’re waiting on the old ones to die. Now that summer’s here in Florida, we’ll start putting the clothes out to dry on the line.

I’ve found that working hard to save money can also reduce your footprint, and it may be better motivation for some. We’ve saved a lot working at home – gas money, clothes money, food money… It’s amazing how much we spend on a daily basis earning the money to spend on a daily basis ๐Ÿ™‚

  10. Stop junk mail! Green Dimes (www.greendimes.com) is a great organization that helps reduce your junk mail and unwanted catalogs for a small fee. Plus, when you sign up, they plant 5 trees. When you choose what catalogs you want to stop, they’ll plant an additional tree per catalog. This is a great program. I am a member and it has significantly reduced our junk mail. I’m so happy not to be getting 10 credit applications a day! Right now it’s only $20 for an entire year. You can’t beat itโ€”reduce junk mail and plant trees. Why wouldn’t you do it?

  13. A few months ago we started trying to buy items that involve less packaging. We still buy what we want, but if there’s a close choice, we choose the lesser packaging. Like if we’re buying cookies in a grocery bakery dept., we’ll get the ones that come in a wax paper bag and not the blister-pack-like clear plastic, etc.

  16. Swapped out regular light bulbs for energy efficient bulbs that take less energy and last as long as 9 regular bulbs. So saving in more than one way ๐Ÿ™‚ Less production, less glass, less power to run them. Using fans to circulate air to be able to leave the heat/air conditioning lower. Exploring the use of solar panels back in Vegas. All that sun should be used wisely!

  19. I bought canvas bags to carry my groceries in so I won’t be getting/using as many plastic bags – I need to design and create some then buy for me to take to dept stores with me when I go shopping so I can stop getting plastic bags there too.

I am leaving the flourescent (sp) lights off in my office at work as much as possible. That is much easier to do spring, summer and fall in Houston Texas than during the winter – last week … I did not turn my office lights on even once and neither did any of my co-workers so perhaps they are getting used to me not having them on. Plus my eyes like it much better too!

I’m waiting for the light bulbs to need replacement to swap out for the energy efficient bulbs. I am regualting the heating and cooling for maximum off or least on settings on a daily basis.

  22. In my house, we do something called “lights out Tuesday.” On Tuesday, from when I pick up the kids until they go to bed, we don’t turn on any lights, we don’t use the oven, we don’t watch TV or play games, anything that takes electricity. It’s fun for the kids, and it cuts down on the power we use–a lot! (get it, lot, L.O.T., lights out tuesday, harr dee harr harr…)
