Party like a Penguin - it's World Penguin Day!

You might be asking.. what the heck is World Penguin Day?

There isn’t a ton of information about the day other than its a good time to learn a little bit more and pass on the penguin happiness. However, Penguin Geek has a great post about the Adelie Penguins and their migration beginning on the 25th of every year.

There’s also a little bit of information at Holiday Insights about both World Penguin day and Penguin Awareness day (January 20th).

In honor of this fabulously fun day, I am giving away free buttons (one per email).

Here’s how to get yours:

Leave a comment below.
Tell me what it is you love about penguins or what kind of penguin you love or something loveable about penguins.
Make sure to include a valid email address so I will contact you for your mailing address and send you a free penguin button. Do NOT leave your mailing address in the comments.

Please Pass it on! Note: There is a limited supply

I first saw live penguins long ago at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. One particularly portly Emperor was tilted so far forward, I thought he must surely be about to topple over. I watched and watched, but he didn't move an inch. We returned to their enclosure later, and sure enough he was flat on the floor. I've been quietly fond of those flightless birdies ever since.

I love penguins, they are so cute and my boyfriend is obsessed with them. I just find their story fascinating and they are such a lovable animal.

Love all the cute little Penguins. Would love to have one help in the garden… Don't see too many this far north…

Tho they'd be right at home in the cold winters. Could even have lots of fun sliding on the snow covered Mississippi river bank into the icy water. Hmmm… Do Penguins like to play with Otters? There's lots of Otters around here.

Happy World Penguin day!

Now I want to go to Sea World to check out my penguin buddies… I really wish they could make it larger though (the enclosure) last time I was there it was very crowded.

I love penguins most when they waddle up to the edge and bounce into the water! If I were a penguin I would be ALL about that :)

Yay for penguins…got hooked reading Mr. Popper's Penguins back when I was in 2nd or 3rd grad (waaaay back). That and I associate with them….short, round and waddly. Admire the fact that they thrive in some harsh conditions. Fave? Has to be the Rockhopper (which is why I have the screen name that I do)….

I find Penguins to be great role models. I've always wanted to be classy enough to wear a tux every day but it's really a lot of effort. Penguins make it look easy and that's just incredible.

Penguins are adorable little men in suits that enjoy life in the slow lane.

Penquins are THE most loveable creatures. Always dressed for the occasion be it casual or formal. They are extremly fast and cleaver and my daughter creates the best penquins EVER! ! !

Penguins alway look as if they're having fun, especially when the slide along the ice and splash into the water. They also look so vulnerable. Love your penguin illustration.

We could learn a thing or two watching the sheer selfless dedication and sacrifice emperor penguin parents show to their young.
It's awe inspiring!!

I love penguins. :D
They are so cute and they always put a smile on my face.
I believe we can save them, if we all help save their homes.
Did I mention they were cute? :D

My daughter's favorite animal is the penguin! We recently spent a LOT of time in the penguin exhibit at SeaWorld SA waiting for an egg to hatch (they said it takes ~48 hours so it did NOT happen while we waited!). She chose a penguin theme for her 6th birthday party which is on Jan. 23 (so close to world penguin day!). We're now spending a lot of time drawing penguin pictures together.

ashlyns January 20, 2010 at 2:31 pm

I LOVE that they always look happy and make me smile when they waddle about! I am admittedly in love with penguins!

Megan April 22, 2010 at 6:39 am

I love penguins!!! I would marry one if i could, it would be complete in a tuxedo and everything!

RockHopper1 April 25, 2010 at 5:02 pm

What’s not to love about penguins??? ok, maybe the smell. I love their walk! I love that they are fantastic swimmers and that they live in the most beautiful, albeit coldest, place in the world.
Great site. Thanks! Keep it up.
